Going Green With Windows

Environmentalists are constantly trying to figure out new ways to saving energy and making the environment greener. A couple of scientists have invented one new way through the object that makes houses look stunning: the window.

Scientists from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Boston have created a new type of solar panel that allows light to pass through it like a pane of glass. The discovery is said to be 10 times more powerful than other solar energy methods.

The "solar concentrator" collects light at the edges while dye molecules coated on the glass absorb sunlight and re-emit it at different wavelengths. The light is then trapped within the glass and is transported to the solar cells located along the edge, which creates electricity.

The system hopes to be implemented within the next three years. To find out more information on the solar panel windows, you can read the MIT news release here.
