Is it Art or Advertising?


These following ten exhibits are very creative pieces of work, and we know that all advertising is a great work of art.

The question to you is, are the pictures below just pieces of art? Or are they ads for a brand?

1. Melted Ice Cream

A melted ice cream truck on the side of the walkway by the beach.

Is it art or advertising?

The answer: Art

A ccording to the Sydney Morning Herald, a melting ice cream van complete with a distorted Greensleeves refrain, a giant lifesaver cap and an outhouse with the world's best view marked the opening of the 10th Sculpture by the Sea exhibition on the coastal walk from Bondi to Tamarama.

2. Millions of Peaches

A woman constructed of peaches in a park.

Is it art or advertising?

The answer: Advertising

This is a sculpture of a naked woman whose skin is made up of more than 20,000 peaches. The copy for the Ella brand sculpture reads:, “skincare that is good enough to eat.”

3. Bicycle Around Town

Neon bicycles seen throughout New York City.

Art or advertising?

The answer: Advertising

DKNY placed a multitude of neon orange colored bicycles througout New York City in a guerrilla marketing attempt. On top of placing the bikes, with DKNY.com labeling, around around town, bike maps were given out at DKNY’s Madison Ave and SoHo stores.

4. A True Love Story

An interactive love story found throughout the streets of San Fransisco.

Is it art or advertising?

The answer: Art

She Loves The Moon’ is an interactive love story, not representing any brand, it is simply an art installation. In order to ‘read’ the book you choose simply follow the arrows which correspond with the story line you would like to follow.

There are two endings to the story being told on the streets; one happy and one tragic.

5. Fool's Gold?

Stacks of mock gold bullions placed throughout the streets of London.

The answer: Advertising

Actually, it's advertising for art.

Artist Paul Insect placed stacks of signed mock gold bullions reading, “if you have me, I was stolen” in strategic places around London to promote his upcoming exhibit.

6. Optical Illusions

Are these chalk drawings seen throughout the streets of UK art or advertising?

The answer: Art

These drawings are just great pieces of art that were throughout the UK by renowned chalk artist Julian Beever.

7. All Over Town

Different clear/see thru figures were seen throughout Washington DC. These figures include ducks, dogs, giraffes, people, phones and many more.

Are they works of art or do they represent a brand using them as advertising?

The answer: Art

These sculptures are actually made out of tape. The artist, Mark Jenkins' works are extremely eclectic and are often showcased on the streets of Washington DC.

8. Fish Tank

Is it art or advertising?

The answer: Art

The Fishtank Phone Booth, according to TrendHunter, was created as part of the Fête des lumières or Lyons Light Festival, which is an annual celebration to honor Mary, the mother of Jesus, on December 8th.

Does asking a question at the beginning of the blog and answering it yourself come from to much advertising or not enough Art , You decide ...

The vaio sketch done on the street is clearly advertising as it was commissioned by the vaio store behind! duh
